Vision

While many mission related conferences offer valuable information on the mechanics of mission and implementing mission programs, Cultivating Compassion offers a complementary focus on the spiritual foundation necessary to be effective at our mission calling.

Often we look to scripture for quick answers to our questions. In Cultivating Compassion, we will instead focus on the questions that God asks us in scripture. We may find ourselves wrestling with the answers and peering deeply into our soul. In so doing we benefit from the transformation that an intimate relationship with God offers. Each of the questions confronted will bring us closer to an authentic engagement with the pain and suffering in our world.

Conference Objective

To energize, revitalize and mobilize congregations by equipping leaders spiritually with biblical truths and relevant, personal application so that each of us can better fulfill our divine calling to be the ‘Hands and Feet’ of Christ.

  • For those new to mission; find your voice and listen for your unique calling.
  • For those already engaged in mission; experience a time of renewal and increased focus.
  • Times of teaching, small group interaction, worship and fellowship will strengthen and encourage. Whether your ministry is in “Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria or the ends of the earth,” a deeper understanding of your calling increases your effectiveness and brings greater joy in serving.

Cultivating Compassion – Preparing Hearts for Mission is a road map for the spiritual journey of reaching out with the love of Christ to the least, lost and lonely, in our midst.

  • Keynote Speaker

    Rev. Trevor Hudson

Trevor has been in the Methodist ministry for the past 30-odd years, spending most of this time in and around Johannesburg, South Africa. Presently, he is on the pastoral team at Northfield Methodist Church in Benoni where he teaches and preaches. He also travels widely doing conferences, retreats, and workshops in a number of diverse settings.

He has written seven books, including Journey of the Spirit, which was awarded Best Christian Book of the Year in South Africa (2003). His most recent books, A Mile in My Shoes, The Way of Transforming Discipleship, Listening to the Groans, and Questions God Asks Us are now available.

Much of his ministry is shaped by two passions: to help ordinary Christ-followers discover a compassionate, down-to-earth and life-giving spirituality, and to build missional faith-communities where folk can link the inward and outward dimensions of their Christian faith.

Trevor is married to Debbie and together they are the parents of Joni and Mark.

Below are videos that sample Trevor's teaching from other conferences.
